- Spotify Connect is the brainchild of Spotify, the popular on-demand music service with more than 35 million songs. There are numerous levels of service available, including Spotify free, Spotify Premium, Premium for Family, Spotify for Students and Spotify Gaming — all of which offer a variety of free or paid tiers for your music.
- Alexa starts to support Spotify to play on Alexa devices. Not only Spotify, but you can also play Apple Music, Pandora or Spotify on Amazon Alexa devices. There is no need to have Amazon Prime or Spotify paid account for playing on Alexa.

If you have never used Spotify before, you may get the free trial (it lasts for 3 months now) and explore all that this music streaming service has to offer, and all of that using Alexa.
So you just unwrapped an AmazonAlexa, Echo, or EchoDot—maybe someone who really gets you gifted one, or perhaps the holidays inspired you to treat yo’ self. Don’t start the new year with the smart speaker still sitting in its box. Setting it up to play classic, pop, and everything else is a done deal in three steps.
What you’ll need: your new device, the Amazon Alexa app on your smartphone or tablet, and your Spotify login info. Here’s how to connect Amazon Alexa to Spotify:
- First, download the Amazon Alexa app from the Google Play or App store, and follow the prompts to set up your new Amazon Echo or Echo Dot.
- Once connected, go to “Settings,” select “Music,” click “Link New Service,” and then tap “Spotify” to input your Spotify username and password.
- Select “Default Services” to set Spotify as your default music service—et voilà.
Bonus hack: Once Alexa is up and running, you can even listen to another user’s Spotify account. Just ask Alexa to “Spotify Connect,” and the device will search for another one on the same Wi-Fi network. Stealing your holiday houseguests’ excellent playlists is encouraged.
Ready? Try asking Alexa to play the very best of your library, or help you discover something new, by saying:
“Alexa…”
- “Play Spotify.”
- “Play my Discover Weekly.”
- “Play hip-hop music.”
- “Pause.”
- “Resume Spotify.”
- “Like this song.”
- “Play the next song.”
- “What’s playing?”
- “What’s this album?”
Alexa, play Summer 2018 playlist.

Pro Tips
Pro Tip #1: How to play your Liked Songs
To play your Liked Songs (the ones you tap the heart icon for), say “Alexa, play my Liked Songs on Spotify.” You can even “like” a new song and add it to your Liked Songs list via Alexa just by saying “Alexa, like this song” while the song is playing.
Even if you’ve made Spotify your default music provider, for this Alexa command you still have to include the “on Spotify.”
Pro Tip #2: How to play your Discover Weekly and Daily Mix
Discovery weekly: Just say “Alexa play my Discovery Weekly playlist.” Spotify debian download.
Daily mix: Just say “Alexa, play my daily mix [insert number] playlist.”
Pro Tip #3: Sometimes it’s easier to listen to playlists via Alexa routine
When I listen to music, I generally listen to my favorite playlist of the moment. But I can never remember the exact Spotify playlist name to summon it with Alexa.
How was the spotify app made to be. My solution: I created an Alexa routine that turns on the Spotify playlist whenever I say “Alexa, playlist.”
Plus, you can easily change the routine to play a different Spotify playlist (for when your favorite playlist inevitably changes).
Pro Tip #4: Why not create a few Alexa routines for different playlists?
If you want to easily summon multiple playlists, create a few routines with different Alexa command triggers. For example, “Alexa, morning playlist,””Alexa, relaxing playlist,””Alexa, energize playlist,” etc.
